Carly Milne
Sexography
Abuse. Abstinence. Adventure.
After a tumultuous childhood marred by sexual abuse, sexual assault and rape, Carly Milne found herself in her own personal version of rock bottom, looking for a way up and out.
Her path to peace was sometimes rocky, often ridiculous, and always entertaining, taking her into bouts of celibacy and promiscuity, therapy and confrontations, and finally, unique personal explorations that took her through the inner workings of the porn industry. . .and that's just scratching the surface. With brutally raw honesty, unflinchingly dramatic reports and hearty humor, Milne fully explores the truth that people never seem able to admit—that the path to transcendence and survival of a traumatic event is never linear, never predictable and never pretty, but that makes the process of getting there all the more rewarding. Whether you've been through similar experiences or just know someone who has, Carly's lecture will change your mind about why and how survivors survive.
Carly Milne's book "Sexography, One Woman's Journey from Ignorance to Bliss" (2007) details her path to peace and coming of age story. From "making out" with imaginary Hollywood stars in her closet (and getting busted) to coming to terms with her sexual abuse, from embracing her curiosity enough to become a sex toy tester to accepting and dealing with her tumultuous past, from the earliest experiences in her childhood homes in Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta, to present-day Los Angeles, Milne guides readers through the troubled waters of female sexuality with a mixture of candor and humor.
Carly Milne's work has appeared in Glamour, Maxim, Stuff, Variety, Whole Life Times, Bitch Magazine, Business Traveler, and on AOL, MSN Personals and Match.com, among many others. She has been interviewed by The Insider, E!, Nightline, Sirius Radio, ABC, Sex TV, XM Radio, Playboy Radio, and others. She has contributed to three anthologies ("Virgin Territory", "Best American Sex Essays 2005" and "You'll Never Make Love in This Town Again, Again"), edited one ("Naked Ambition"), and is the author of "Sexography" (Phoenix Books, 2007), the tragic and comedic story of her sexual journey after experiencing rape, sexual abuse and sexual assault.
